We have the tools to win now and I feel this year will find out if Mason is going to be the carpenter we need to grow this program. I think Mason is a very intelligent football mind but it takes more than that these days to sustain a winning program. Looking at his recruits he can find players that fit his system but at VU you have to win to get the difference makers and he will never have that "rock star" personality to rely on so he has to do it old school and that is win, bowl games and push the 40 yr plan.
Looking over the roster we have talent and experience and pretty much 98% of the players have playing experince that will see the field this year. They say it all starts "up front" and the players on both sides of the ball have plenty of talent and experince and know how to win. Heck we got guys who have been on bowl teams and while not great depth who in this league not named Alabama does. Good coaching overcomes depth in this league. Mason and Ludwig I believe are excellent coordinators but ABC play calling no matter how precise and disciplined it is has to have a fair share of xyz ( take chances and get creative) for VU to win close games. That is what CJF,Stoops and Donavan did to make up talent and depth gaps.
While we don't have a 3 down type WR like Mathews and Krause we have plenty of talent to run any type passing play. Kentera is going to impress this year and Rayford,Sherfield and Ganty will fill out decent enough combination size,speed and hands to get it done. Sims and Monroe have great upside but need to improve. Throw in arguably the best set of pass catching TE's along with a 4 star experienced QB In JM who has Matured and there is not a reason we should not be a balanced offense. You guys already know about Webb and Rivers but Crawford is a very pleasant surprise.
I think and feel the defense is ready to get back to playing "Black Death" football and there should be a major improvment in creating turnovers and getting VU easier scoring drives which is what was desperately lacking last year. I just think DM and AL are great coordinators and the talent is there that if you put the two together we should all except a bowl game. I have seen enough of this team to know the talent is there and while I will not predict how many wins a bowl game should be expected. Everyone in SEC East has questions and depth issues. While I hate to say it..... It's now or ???? Anchor Down and Dare to believe!
