I wanted to share this quote by Clark Lea from a column by that fine Tennessean columnist Gentry Estes. Gentry has his finger on the pulse of local sports and his columns are must read columns.
CCL: "The love I have for this place always shines through. And the belief I have in it too. None of this has ever waivered. I think what I have learned more than anything else is I can't do it all on my own." For my money, this sounds like someone I'd like to see coaching Vanderbilt for many years to come. Coach Lea is certainly not the first coach to take on his first head coaching job and have the first few seasons look like an impossible mess. But I think Coach Lea has learned a lot about head coaching. Nobody knows what the portal, NIL, high school recruiting will look like in the next few years so it is hard to predict where Vandy football will stand when the dust settles. But I know I am hoping Clark Lea will be the head coach of a successful, competitive, winning team.
