First, let me say that I’m not comparing our basketball team to the US team. And my apologies if this all been discussed in a previous thread.
The US Men’s Basketball team shows the difficulty of playing 12 players in a 40 minute game. Assuming that Bilal doesn’t play often, that leaves 12 players. Each of the remaining 12 players have support from members of the fanbase. (e.g. some people think Huffman should be a significant part of the rotation, some think JQ should get to play, etc.) The coaching staff has to manage egos and keep the players engaged.
Through 2 games, here’s what we’ve seen:
3 DNPs. The highest MPG is 24.
Obviously there’s not a direct correlation between the two rosters. But it provides visualization for potential options. If Hoggard and Edwards each play 28 minutes a game, for example, you can place them in the Lebron and Booker spots above and ask “where do those 8 extra minutes come from”.
Do you try to play all 12 guys but sit a few each game? Can you keep guys who have huge minutes in the past happy by playing them 15-18 mpg? Do you just go with a 10 man rotation? If two guys are left without a chair, how to you manage those egos and keep the locker room united?
I am not accustomed to having 12 guys on a roster that you will feel comfortable playing. I find it oddly stressful.
