First - I have never been on the "Bankins sucks because he can't recruit RBs" bandwagon as Vandy hasn't recruited well at that position long before Bankins was responsible. But.......if you are CDM, how can you finish the season with him leading special teams?
Special teams has been an unmitigated disaster this year, and this game was the tipping point. Everyone in the stadium knew that UF was faking the FG, yet Bankins' group was not ready for it and got bailed out by the fumble. I count 4 punt returns by UF of over 15 yards, plus the opening KO return. Bankins appeared to have no answer. Its been pretty clear since half-way through the season that having Openshaw doing both FGs and punts is not working, yet no change. So....does CDM reassign special teams duties to another coach after this debacle? Surely one of the other staff members has coached ST before, right?
I think Bankins sees the door at the end of the season, but I sure would like to see CDM make a responsibilities change tomorrow. I guess we'll see.
