I have not been a fan of Mason remotely, but we were screwed out of a chance to win the game (and I cleaned that up). Clearly, Mason can game plan against the spread, and we had enough iffense to win.
Interference with the catch and the fake punt = the fix was in. Fake punt was short of the line to gain and there was no one within 4 yards of the Ole Muss punt returner. How many points did we lose? 6-10 at the least?
The biggest question I have is this: how did this defense and this team lose to Western Kentucky? I have an answer for this. In the clutch, we relied on guys who don't have the intestinal fortitude to get it done (see the drop in the end zone).
If we get that interference call with Franklin at the helm (which I don't think we do), he goes freaking ballistic. I never saw Mason riding the ref like a rented mule. Later, I saw him laughing with one of the crew. They deserved cussing up one side of the stadium and down the other. That was unacceptable.
I guess we'll get another apology letter from the SEC. We have already wallpapered McGugin with them. Where do we start hanging them now? Indoor practice field? DiNardo used to preach constantly to the officials that VU belonged in the SEC and deserved to get proper officiating. Maybe we need some of that proactive approach.
