AJ or perhaps, Shelby Moats, may have been the 2 biggest reaches by CKS over the last 4 recruiting classes. AJ transferred to Towson 2 years ago; he sat out last season. I saw him play on TV 4 or 5 times for portions of games.
Towson lost in the first round of the CAA yesterday finishing up at 12-20. Towson had a team of all underclassmen, with the exception of one senior who played less than 20 minutes per game. This year was viewed as a rebuilding year.
Early in the season, AJ started games as a "2" guard, however, generally, did not play extended minutes. As the season progressed his role decreased and by January, he was coming off the bench. He had 4 DNPs' - - 3 of the last 12 games plus he missed an early season game due to an ankle injury. AJ averaged 16 minutes per game with 9 games of over 20 minutes and 7 games with less than 10 minutes of PT; his high in minutes was 35 vs. Monmouth.
AJ averaged 3.3 points per game on 39% FG and 55% FT shooting marks. He shot 28% from "3" and almost 50% from "2". He scored double digits in only 3 games with a high of 16 versus Monmouth, AJ threw up 8 shots in a game twice as a high and 8 FT's one time again as a high point.
Rebounding was his best quality at 2.7 per game hauling in 6 and 5 rebounds a few times in individual games.
Unless AJ's game takes off, he will likely have similar numbers across his final 2 seasons at Towson since other players have taken away his starting role and are more established (although, admittedly, not that good).
