Vanderbilt plays the Governors of Austin Peay tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. You can view it on SEC Network +
Austin Peay is 1-2 on the season, with a win over Oakland City (don't think they are in division one) and a 22 point loss to Western Kentucky, as well as a 7 point loss to Tulsa. The leader on the team is clearly Terry Taylor, a 6' 5", 230 pound junior guard. He averages just under 35 minutes per game, has scored over 20 points each game thus far, pulls down 8 boards a game, shoots 54% from the field and 80% from the line.
Jordyn Adams and Antwuan Butler are the other two players averaging in double figures, and Butler also dishes out 4 assists per game and is a perfect 10-10 from the line thus far.
Austin Peay appears to be very much a guard-oriented team that relies on quickness and desires to get to the rim as often as possible. They shoot only 25% from beyond the arc.
Vanderbilt will need to neutralize the dribble-drive penetration, and it would be good to see significant improvement on the defensive end overall. Boxing out needs to become a much higher priority on the defensive glass. Of course, this team is a work in progress, and is young, so this is another opportunity to see how things are progressing as a whole.
