Mason came into a program with back to back 9 wins seasons, a 17 game stretch where we were the third most winning SEC program (behind Alabama and TAMU) and with all-time fan support and with facilities better than any coach had inherited before him (albeit still last in the SEC< for sure). There's so much about how this and that contributed to the abject spiral to oblivion of the VU football program, and I'm not saying that there aren't many moving parts to this, but again if there is one person accountable it is Mason. Things slid on his watch. He didn't work or fight for things. He communicated horribly. He coached miserably. He brought in sub-standard talent and speed relative to the SEC teams we play.He was in way over his head and not only could you see that in game 1, there were rumors from within the AD about that before game 1.

I know he is a nice guy and this isn't to kick someone when they are down. I'm just a big believer than the right coach can do wonders and the wrong coach can cause massive problems. It's hard to find the right coach for us, for sure, but we can. And I think the program will elevate of for no other reason, we really found the wrong coach in Mason and let him stay for 7 years of demoralization.
