Jed Fisch was hired the same year as Clark Lea. He went 1-11 first year, 5-7 last year, and now is 7-3 and top-25 after 4 wins in a row over ranked Wazzu, UCLA, and Oregon State teams, and a win over unranked Colorado. They also lost to Mississippi State this year, so maybe it’s just playing in the PAC-12 remnants that gives them a boost.

His staff features Brennan Carroll (son of Pete Carroll) as offensive coordinator. Their QB coach/passing game coordinator Jimmie Dougherty was UCLA’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator prior to joining the Arizona staff. Carroll makes $650k this year. Dougherty makes $550k.

Arizona was god awful that first year, but they took a big jump last year. Their recruiting rankings are not really any better than Vanderbilts those to years. They had about twice as many transfers, but they were not near the top of the transfer recruiting by any means.

Arizona has been bad for a long time, but it seems like they nailed it with Fisch. Vanderbilt hired a coach the same year and did not.
