6-6 is not impossible.

Before the season, I thought VU would go 4-8. I thought the defense would be better and thought the offense would struggle. Four games into the season, the defense is playing really well. Ole Miss got its yards but the defense forced two TOs, blocked a FG, and with its back against the end zone, really wreaked havoc.

The offense has gotten better from WKU to now. Johnny is still prone to making a bad decision or two a game, but I am really loving his game right now. He is standing tall in the pocket and being accurate with the ball. I hope he will continue to improve.

I don't think I can stress enough how vital this game is this weekend. 6-6 is possible when looking at the schedule. The only game that I see on the schedule that is going to be extremely difficult to win is the Texas A&M game.

MTSU - beatable
Houston - beatable
Florida - beatable
Mizzou - beatable
So. Carolina - beatable
Kentucky - beatable
UT - beatable

Is going 5-3 here going to be tough? Absolutely. But it all starts with MTSU on Saturday. Beat MTSU. Beat Houston. Then win 3 of the remaining SEC games. This team can do this. Just keep getting better. The team looks prepared. The team is fighting and getting better. 4-8 (or 3-9) is still possible and more likely than 6-6. And I get wins and losses are the ultimate statistic coaches are judged on. I just know I see a much better football team out there.

I think Mason can work here. Is Vanderbilt going to compete for the SEC and NC every year in football? Not likely. But I think Mason is a coach that sees VU as a place he can stay for a long time and go 6-6 or 7-5 on a yearly basis with the occasion 9 or 10 win regular season.
