What have we become?

What a mess. This crap is no different than team politics. Once we have put an opinion out there on social media, we just stick to it.

It’s hilarious to watch almost every single topic turn into an Anti Stackhouse stance vs Every Opinion that isn’t mired in Anti Stackhouse sentiment.

The Anti Stackhouse group, unilaterally, doesn’t give us any chance at making the NCAAt unless we win the SECt.

The Every Opinion that isn’t mired in Anti Stackhouse sentiment group is almost unilaterally in agreement that if we go 4-1 down the stretch, we still have a shot at an at large bid.

The above is just one example because it’s almost every topic connected to VU hoops turns out the same way with the same few guys.

As for me, I won’t apologize for not giving up, that’s how I’m wired and I hope our basketball team feels the same way (sure looks like they’re still fighting).

I think some of y’all just enjoy being miserable. I doubt y’all will come back to Memorial or go to the SECt to support the team. It’d be nice if y’all proved me wrong though.

Go Vandy?

Moved Up to #7 in the D1 Baseball Top 25

Obviously early season top 25s are about the most meaningless things out there but good to see some forward movement after taking down UCLA.

Central Ark notwithstanding hard not to be happy with a first 2 weeks that includes wins over Texas, Okie St and UCLA x2

Crowd vs FL compared to Auburn

How many folks think there were more VU fans at the FL game than the Auburn game. It would have to be those that swore up and down that Auburn fans way out numbered VU fans not counting students. Otherwise there is no way Aub fans outnumbered VU fans if the same or more VU fans attended the Auburn game that attended the FL game. And do you think that happened after VU lost to LSU

I can again explain the sections but it was so obvious yesterday. Most empty seats compared to Auburn were in F, 2F and 3F (I couldn’t see 3L but I imagine it was pretty empty). Sections mostly full yesterday with VU fans: L, 2L and good amount in Belle Meade sections yesterday . Fill in a lot of those empty seats and that was the Aub crowd, dressed in bright Orange. Again no one was arguing there was too many, but all you had to do was look at the empty seats yesterday to know there weren’t more Aub fans than VU, not really that close (and top 1/2 sections of 3L and 3F were for sure less than half full the Aub game).

I think there were more VU fans at the Aub game than the FL game (probably not a lot more but more) too, but that’s just me guessing.

Prediction

‘Dores lose at Rupp on Wednesday. Beat State at home on a Saturday. Make a run to the SEC Championship game and fall to ‘Bama.

I could easily look stupid here in two weeks. But if they stay in the 6 spot, I like their draw. Stack has had them playing well in the SEC tournament all three years. They should win that first matchup and then they’d be playing Kentucky or Tennessee. Tough but winnable if play well. Then they get A&M most likely who I think is really beatable with Robbins playing well. This would be really fun and I hope the guys can make it happen

The other side's board is always fun when we win

Here's a Florida board.

To sum up:
- Yes, they noticed that they lost to VU in football and twice in basketball in one academic year. That defines "rock bottom".
- They agree that Robbins is good "at this level"
- A bit of ref complaining, no surprise
- It's been 40 years since both football and basketball had losing seasons in the same academic year. Could happen this year.
- One poster surmised that their athletic issues are because the school's gone all in on Academia. Hmm...
- And unless their coach wins the portal, next year won't be much better, or maybe worse.

Audio PODCAST: Greysen Carter's outlier fastball, baseball roles TBD and some hoops talk after the LSU loss

Greysen Carter hit triple-digits with a fastball on Wednesday; Chris Lee and Andrew Allegretta dive into the unusual nature of that pitch, discuss pitching roles, the time-share at catcher and the Commodores' nice problem having to leave a good bat or two on the bench every day. Also, some talk about the loss to LSU and Liam Robbins' near triple-double.

NIT chances

I've felt the NCAAT was a long shot since the beginning of the season, but maybe an NIT bid was possible. Then, the Florida game make me believe they had a chance of NCAAT at-large bid, but only if they avoid bad losses the rest of the way. Well, the bad loss happened, and it's time to move on.

I still think they have a shot at the NIT, but they have a lot of work to do. Vandy better beat Florida and Miss St to finish the season with a winning record (17-14), and they probably need to win two games in the SECT if they can't beat UK on the road. If they beat UK, then one SECT win might get them in.

If you think I'm kidding, just remember Vandy's NET ranking was 87 BEFORE losing to #157 LSU. I won't be shocked if Vandy drops 8-9 spots after tomorrow. Last year, St Bonaventure was the last team to receive an NIT at-large and they had an #85 NET ranking. I found a short article that seems to indicate the committee pays a lot more attention to the NET rankings when selecting the at-large teams AND the seeding.

The NIT is still a possibility, but IMO, Vandy can only afford to lose to UK the rest of the way.

Why does VU rank so poor defensively but so great offensively this yr compared to last yr really good defensively but not so great offensively?

KEN Pom this yr 26th most efficient offense but 182 most efficient defense

Last yr 40th most efficient defense but 90th most efficient offense.

It’s mind boggling really. I mean, offensively it shows you what a good offense big man can do for you is why I think so. Plus you have Lawrence who has developed and a PG that is great at driving, finishing, dishing and facilitating.

But you had Pippen who was a great scorer and Stute shot much better last yr.

I just think the combo big man/pg they have this plus Lawerence development plus what they are getting from some others on occasion like Thomas/Wright plus Smith the offense just had been really good. Too much just watching Pippen last yr.

Defense is more of a quandary. They have much better rim protection in Robbins, a much better on ball defender at the PG in Manjon. So what’s the issue. I thought Q was excellent at D last yr. It seems they over help much more this yr. I think they were also better at takeaways / turning other team over last yr (haven’t looked this up so maybe I’m off). But on paper it seems they should be better this yr. Not only are they not, they’ve almost fallen off the cliff in terms of defensively.

Offense is really amazing. It’s been yrs since they’ve ranked this high. But defense is killing them. FL is a bad offensive team and there was a stretch in the 2nd half when VU didn’t get a zero point stop for around 10 possessions for example. It’s crazy.

Big Win

Crowd was mostly made up of Vandy fans. I sat in the BMSection, so nobody around me was cheering but the students looked engaged

We have won 6 of 7 games, and we have a huge week coming up. Winning at Rupp seems like an impossible task but we can win if we play well.

Props to Filet, Tyrin, Liam, Trey, Colin Smith and the entire team for pulling in the same direction for the win.

Game thread UCLA at Vanderbilt, Friday, 4:30

UCLA comes in 4-0, out-scoring Omaha (three games) and Pepperdine by a combined 58-4.

Impressive numbers at the plate (.349/497/.557, 7 HR, 9-11 SB) though a lot of help from opponents (14 errors!)

Impressive numbers in the field (.992, one error).

Elite numbers on the mound (57 Ks, 4 BB, 2 HR).

It got cold here in a hurry--mid-40s this morning, I don't think it'll hit 50 today--so I don't know how UCLA will handle that.
