Will Levis

Never saw him being a top 5 pick, glad my eyes still work. It’s a shame he bought the hype and got to sit there on TV and suffer, I’m sure he’ll turn it into motivation but dude threw 23 picks the last two years. They always go back to the tape in the end, and didn’t help that he wasn’t the biggest freak in the draft for QB, that was Richardson.

Duran Parish update

Not much here, but may be of interest to some:

SUN HERALD STARTING FIVE
James Turner, Biloxi: Turner’s return to Biloxi netted 18 points and three assists per game.
Ryan Roth, St. Patrick: Roth took advantage of a larger role and became one of the Coast’s top scorers.
Duran Parish, Biloxi: The Vanderbilt football signee scored 16 points a game, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists.
Kedrick Osby, Moss Point: Osby was once again the key cog in Moss Point’s attack with a points-rebounds double-double season average.
Eric Davis, St. Patrick: The junior big dominated opponents with 22.3 points and 14 rebounds a night, as well as four blocks per game.

If you’re not going to pay recruits (NIL)… you SURE as hell

..better pay your current players, once those “big” schools come knocking. And I’m not talking about a few thousand dollars…

There is currently ‘Free Agency’ taking place in college athletics - and Vanderbilt is simply choosing to not partake (regarding NIL $$).

I’m not telling anyone how to spend their money, but if I (a die hard Vandy fan) were a billionaire that may or may not own a professional sports team - I’d have Vanderbilt football and basketball in the SEC Championship within 4 years.

Football: Even Big Time programs are dealing with portal poaching

ND just had a QB poached by Alabama.

I don't think this is going to be a big school versus small school issue. Players are just going to hop where they can get the best compensation/playing time/draft showcasing.

Audio PODCAST: Vanderbilt's NIL/transfer portal troubles; level of concern for this baseball season

Between baseball's being swept at Tennessee, basketball losing its best player (Tyrin Lawrence) to the transfer portal and football losing a starting cornerback (Ja'Dais Richard) on Tuesday night, it's been one of the worst weeks in recent memory for Vanderbilt athletics. Chris Lee and Chip Fridrich start with baseball and discuss a few topics, including the importance of getting pitchers healthy and the impact that could make before moving on to Vanderbilt's being behind everyone else in NIL money and the transfer portal and the impact that's currently having.

Can Barton effectively vet for player loyalty in the recruiting process?

Can Barton effectively vet for player loyalty in the recruiting process?

  • Yes, by getting to know the player/family/coaches, character traits can be accurately evaluated

    Votes: 14 22.6%
  • No, in an age of portal/NIL/"building my brand", evaluating for player loyalty is, at best, a guess

    Votes: 49 79.0%

If this poll needs a middle option, it can be added, but this question seems to call for a yes/no response.

The Vanderbilt way; zig while everyone else zags

It's pretty ridiculous how college sports is now. NIL, transfer portal, "legal" tampering. It's just getting harder to give a crap about it anymore.

Especially when you're a Vandy fan. Zig when the rest of the country zags. For a university that's supposed to be so smart, they sure are dumb.

I've spent the better part of 45 years watching Vanderbilt refuse to invest anything of significance into athletics. Now, FINALLY, they are investing a significant amount of money into athletics.

Unfortunately, the rest of the power five are light years ahead of us here, so while we are excited about the new facilities (which everyone else has had for awhile), the rest of the country is out in front of Vanderbilt yet again on the NIL and transfer portal.

Paying players, tampering, transfer portal, it really makes it hard to care about college athletics anymore since they seem determined to turn it into the NFL/NBA/MLB. But,it's even worse when your team is always two steps behind.

It really is hard being a Vanderbilt fan.
