David Horn grew up tonight.

When Corbin took Maldo out and inserted Horn , I was yelling no no at the TV. This guy will choke it away under such pressure. But man did that kid prove me wrong. That was a tough , tough situation to come in cold late and have to perform. He was absolutely up to the challenge. His stuff is electric and when he hones his command we have another Friday night starter in the offing for the next two seasons. He could be a critical piece this season, too, when we get into tournament play. You da man, David !

Was just looking at the staff on VUCommodores and noticed Michael Curry is no longer listed under coaches. Is he not with the program anymore?

CCL “10 year plan”

I see this phrase mentioned some by fans as a knock on CCL. I always thought people misinterpreted what he’s saying when he says that.

For those who thought it meant by year 10 we finally make a bowl game, read this quote from the Commodore Caravan in Memphis:

“I tell the team this. I want to be recruiting a class in 10 years that only knows Vanderbilt as a successful football program. That means not that we’re differing success to 10 years from now, but that on the backs of the success that we’re going to have over the next few years, and then some, to sustain it so that the people that are in our backyard only know Vanderbilt as a winning program. That’s important.”

SDS article: SEC will have the best QB's in the country

A.J.Swann rated 12th out of 14, BUT, it says it's more because of the talent around him. Says that he would start at Bama, Auburn, Florida, and Mizzou.

Vanderbilt lost its series at Alabama, with some questionable lineup and pitching decisions at the center of that, but the Commodores are still in great shape to be a top-8 national seed and still control their own destiny concerning an SEC title. Also, there are some parallels between this pitching staff and the ones that won Tim Corbin national titles, some interesting stats with run differentials and much, much more.

Ole Miss Baseball: What have you done for me lately

From national champion (last team in no less) to very likely not making it to Hoover. Lost a 7 run lead to Missouri on Thursday night and then got run ruled last night. Both Mississippi State and Missouri now have the tie breaker over Ole Miss. I thought Mike Bianco would have retired last year before their unlikely run in the NCAA Tournament. Maybe he makes it official this year.

I really like Chris Maldonado

and very happy he flipped from Clemson to us. Big part of our offense this year. But he was 0-11 in the Bama series. And the hitting approach didn't look right. I wonder if CTC might try Hewitt who has gotten some clutch hits lately in LF and Polk at DH. And maybe Bulger again at C to get the ball in the play and pressure the defense. We have a good team but a few positions remain unsettled. We need to fire on all cylinders v UL and UF this week. And hopefully we can determine our lineup for the postseason. A national seed and a productive lineup is a winning combination.
